The ice bite on Lewis & Clark really took off this past weekend with the warmer temps. This won't last long as the ice will deplete pretty quick this week with temps in the 60's. But if you get the chance hit the deep holes on the SD side 25-35' deep with spoons, and jigs and minnows and you will have great chance at getting into some sauger, whitebass and perch. If you are ready to get the boat out, head up to Fort Randal, The bite there is great as it is always is this time of year. Bank fishing or from the boat you have a great chance of getting a limit and potentially some big pre-spawn walleye. Jig and minnow is idead but pitching plastics from shore in the evening can be an excellent method as well. I recommend bringing some waders for launching a boat as the water levels are typically low making it a tricky to launch your boat without getting wet. Lewis and Clark isn't seeing as much current as the upper reservoirs so it may be a few weeks before the ice is off. Typicall March 15th is when the ramps are back in the water. Stay tuned for updates on access. Until then Gavins Point dam is holding a lot of fish right not as well and slip drifting with the current is ideal with a jig and minnow.
