Fishing for walleye on the Missouri River near Chamberlain, South Dakota, can be an amazing experience. The river is known for its healthy walleye population, and different seasons offer unique fishing opportunities. Best Times to Fish Spring (March-May): One of the best times, as walleye move into shallower waters for spawning. Jigging and live bait rigs work well. Summer (June-August): Fish move deeper as the water warms. Try trolling crankbaits or bottom bouncers with nightcrawlers. Fall (September-November): Walleye feed aggressively to bulk up for winter. Use jigs, minnows, or crankbaits. Winter (December-February): Ice fishing can be productive in backwater areas with jigs and spoons tipped with minnows. Best Techniques & Baits Jigging: Great year-round, especially with minnows or plastics. Live Bait Rigs: Lindy rigs with nightcrawlers or minnows work well. Trolling: Use crankbaits or bottom bouncers with slow-death rigs. Casting Crankbaits: Works well along rocky shorelines and drop-offs. Hotspots Near Chamberlain Crow Creek & Cedar Shores Area: Good structure for walleye. Big Bend Dam: A well-known walleye hotspot. Bridge Area & Sandbars: These provide great feeding zones.

Fall fishing on LC is very popular amongst the local anglers. The Walleye Guys guides, Brian Bashore and Randy Ausdemore get on a few hours on a beautiful fall day. This is a great time of year to catch a true trophy and several walleye over the 20" mark as well as some eaters for the table. Jig and minnow is the preferred technique but trolling large cranks baits can put some nice fish in the boat as well.

Stop #1 of the 2024 National Walleye Tour on Lake Erie. Here is a look at some practice videos and day 1 of the tournament. Day 2 winds picked up and got nasty so no footage.

Unfortunately, our two big fish videos didn't take for some reason but you get to see most of the other catches. Baits used were #7 Rapala JigNRap and a 3.75 ZMan StreakZ and Jerkshadz.

Just wrapped up the 3rd stop of the National Walleye Tour on Lake Francis Case. I haven't fished this end of the reservoir in three years and I sure do miss it. Great fishing with loads of good fish to be caught using several different methods. I didn't do so well in this tournament as the bite really slowed come tournament days. I was pulling Spinner baits and spoons over and through the trees. As well as rigging slow death rigs with crawlers to suspended walleyes over and in the trees.

Tournament #2 of the season is a wrap from Lake Winnebago. Tossed back a few fish early on day #2 that cost me a check but that's what you get when going for a top 10. Rule #1 you have to bring in a limit (failed that) rule #2 your bag has to be bigger on day #2 than on day #1 to move up. As always Lake Winnebago was full of fish and action doing several different presentations. My Co-anglers were great and we fished hard all day. Finished 55th and kept some points for the championship. Next stop Lake Francis Case.

Fished the Cedar Shores annual walleye tournament, and placed 15th on day 1 and 5th overall for the two day total. Windy conditions but we managed to get our fish pitching jigs tipped with minnows shallow targeting pre-spawn walleye.

The first stop for 2023 on the National Walleye Tour takes place on the Illinois River out of Spring Valley, IL. It was a tough bite with brutal weather conditions leading up to tournament day. The tournament weather was good but the fishing didn't get much better as anticipated. I was able to squeak out a 9th-place finish with 18 lbs. I pulled Leadcore on St.Croix rods with 15lb Seaguar Gold Lable Fluorocarbon leaders in front of Rapala Jointed Shad Raps #5. The key was to go slow .8-1mph in 10-12' fow.
