Cooler temps are settling in and the fish are making some moves. It's been a roller coaster ride the past couple weeks with some big up and downs in fishing which can mainly be related to changing weather conditions. The Summer/Fall transitions period can be a tricky one. There are fish all over the system currently some deep and some shallow but getting the right ones to bite can be a challenge. Taking what the day gives you is the best option until a seasonal pattern begins to settle in. The perch bite is a relating on Lewis & Clark now and definitely worth targeting. The whitebass are schooled up and chasing bait make for a fun day of catching. Walleye fishing seems to be the most consistent right now up river as those fished are less effected by the changing temps and they will soon start to move back into the lake making for an excellent fall bite. If you are into Live scoping it may be the best way to target some of the lake fish as you are able to pick out the species you want to target while trying to avoid all the drum which are always biting. There is a ton of bait in the system right now and it isn't going to change anytime soon. Sometimes if pay to fish where you don't see as much bait on the sonar and get away from the competion as long as there are fish in the area. Otherwise matching the hatch works well but I prefere to show them something out of the ordinary whether that means some crazy colored crank bait or even a bigger bait that normal for this time of year. If your not getting the bites just keep mixing it up until something works.
